Recently, I’ve had many clients seeking guidance on understanding their children’s spiritual gifts.

When I was young, I saw spirits as if they were invisible friends. My mum would often ask if I wanted friends over after school, but I already had plenty of company—my Spirit Guides. It was a confusing time since I didn’t realise that others couldn’t sense spirits and the adults around me couldn’t comprehend my experiences.

Nighttimes were the most challenging. Electrical devices would flash on and off around me, especially the washing machine, lights, and TV. Wristwatches would run backward on me, and the music on Dad’s radio would turn to static if I got too close. I felt uncomfortable being “alone” at night because I could hear spirits moving around me. The more fear I felt, the more I sensed the presence of pets that had passed over. I could feel their weight where they used to sleep on my bed.

My twin daughters, Maddison and Charlotte, also have trouble at night. It seems my spiritual gifts have been passed down to them. Charlotte can see the spirits more easily, while Maddison can feel their energy. When the distractions of the daytime fade away, their senses become heightened.

The spirits that visit us are usually family members and loved ones just checking in. However, this can be unsettling when it is unknown.

Quick & Effective Tips to Help YOUR Child

Below are some strategies I use to help my children feel settled with their spiritual gifts:

Create a Safe Space: Ensure your child’s room feels safe and secure. Nightlights and comforting objects can help.

Open Communication: Encourage your children to talk about their experiences without fear of judgment.

Grounding Techniques: Teach them grounding exercises to help them stay connected to the present moment.

Set Boundaries: Help them understand they can set boundaries with spirits, such as asking them not to disturb their sleep.

Seek Support: Make time with professionals to better unpack your fears and insecurities so that you can approach your child with a clear perspective.

Protective Shield Visualization: Teach them to imagine a protective shield of light around them that repels unwanted energies.

Cleansing Practices: Regularly cleanse their living space with tools like sage or incense to remove any negative energies.

Positive Affirmations: Encourage the use of positive affirmations to reinforce their protection and boundaries.

Trust Their Intuition: Remind them to trust their instincts and intuition when it comes to their spiritual experiences.

Listen to Your Child: It is important to listen to your child as if they are telling you the truth. After all, it is their perception of what’s going on for them.

Empower Your Child: Find ways to empower your child so that they are in charge. Sometimes, it’s as simple as commanding the spirit to leave.

Visualize Protection: Encourage your child to imagine a protective dragon or angel to be with them. This means the burden is not all on them.

Use Protective Crystals: My girls have a few protective crystals to keep by their bed, which absorb their worry and help them sleep. Smoky Quartz and Amethyst are fantastic for this. Etsy or eBay are great places to buy them. You can call them “sweet dreams” crystals.

Maintain a Decluttered Space: It is healthier to sleep in a decluttered space, as well as energetically clean. Some creative mums get their children to vacuum the monsters away! I LOVE IT.
